Here is my first newspaper column for the district Advertisers and Stockport Express. The column will go out fortnightly and highlight the brilliant and exciting walks we do here at Come walk with me UK
When I first moved to Manchester back in the dim and distant past I had the stereotypical image of an industrial Northern city lodged firmly in my head. It only took a short while to realise, however, that not only was that untrue of the city but that Manchester sat surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in England. I have spent the last fifteen years walking amongst this magnificent scenery and since becoming a qualified Mountain Leader I now have the privilege to earn my living by helping others explore the National Parks of the North West and North Wales.
In my new column I will be sharing some of these walks with you and hopefully inspiring you to venture out and enjoy the beautiful countryside on our doorstep. The Peak District is a remarkably diverse area ranging from the dark, foreboding peat moorlands of Bleaklow and the Kinder plateau to the limestone dales and picturesque villages of the White Peak. In my articles I will explore the natural and human history of the area, look at some of the mythology associated with popular spots and highlight some of the less well known parts of one of the world’s most visited National Parks. The walks will vary to try and showcase the best of the different seasons and areas and occasionally I might stray slightly further afield to take in a walk in the Lake District or Snowdonia, but only to highlight a day out that is well worth travelling for!
I very much hope that you enjoy reading about my walks as much as I enjoy undertaking them. If you have any questions or enquiries about either my articles or guided walking in the UK please feel free to visit my webpage at www.comewalkwithmeuk.co.uk or e-mail me at Ian@comewalkwithmeuk.co.uk .
