Whilst we are not climbing Mount Everest the ascent of any hill or mountain is not an undertaking to be entered into lightly. You will enjoy the experience far more if you have a suitable level of fitness for the walk you would like to undertake and it will enable you, and other group members, to get the most out of your day. However, for many of our mountains we have a number of routes available suitable for different fitness levels. If you would prefer to explore flatter terrain, there are many excellent walks we can organise in all areas that might be more enjoyable.
Walking in the hills and mountains of the UK can be a wet and wild experience! Even at the height of Summer the weather can be very changeable and on the tops it can be considerably colder and windier than in the valleys. Whilst we will send out a Kit list with each booking as a bare minimum we would suggest the following;
• Walking boots and socks
• Waterproof jacket and trousers
• Rucksack (big enough to hold kit)
• Lunch and liquids (preferably water)
• Sunglasses and suncream (if appropriate)
• Any medication you require
• Gloves, hat, extra layers (if appropriate)
We would also suggest custom made walking clothing e.g.Synthetic base layer, fleece mid layer and walking trousers. We DO NOT advise wearing jeans, tracksuit trousers or cotton base layers, and reserve the right to restrict the activity if we feel you are inappropriately or dangerously attired. To save confusion, it is always best to ask us in advance!
When you are walking in the hills it is important to ensure you are taking in enough food and drink to compensate for the exertion. We recommend a good balance between carbohydrate rich snacks (chocolate is always popular) to keep up energy levels and more substantial protein based food items. Hydration is very important so always ensure you have sufficient water with you and drink regularly. Come walk with me can provide pack lunches (Standard, deluxe or VIP) for an added charge. Please contact us to discuss.
WHAT ABOUT THE WEATHER?
The British weather is notoriously changeable but as the saying goes “There’s no such thing as bad weather. just the wrong equipment”, and that is our philosophy. Please ensure your kit is suitable for the vagaries of the British weather, but the advantage of damp days is we often have the hills to ourselves! We reserve the right to alter routes or itineraries for safety reasons or to ensure a better experience for the customer.
DO I NEED INSURANCE?
As a responsible operator we hold professional indemnity insurance. However it is your responsibility to ensure that any insurance policies you hold are suitable for the type of activities you will be undertaking during your trip.
DO I NEED TO TELL YOU ABOUT ANY EXISTING MEDICAL CONDITIONS?
We need to know about any existing medical conditions you have at the time of booking and we also request that you let your guide know on the day of the walk. This information will help us provide the best and safest experience possible and will not be shared with anyone else.
DO YOU PROVIDE TRANSPORT?
In general we require you to make your own transport arrangements, however we are happy to provide directions or public transport information. If you think that transport is going to be a problem, please let us know and we will be able to sort something out to assist you.
If you have any other questions that we have not addressed above than please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to provide you with all the information you require!
